Back from Global Economic Summit, we offer our readers a great abstract from Kofi A. Boateng’s speech “Hope for the poor of the world through expanding trade”. Kofi A. Boateng is Chief Operating Officer of WTCA. That’s what we call “food for thought”!

Since 1970, there has been, is and will be the World Trade Centers Association to promote a politically, racially and ethnically-blind global prosperity through trade. The need to nurture a worldwide network that ensures that serious business people are properly vetted to conclude their businesses across borders has never been greater. That is what World Trade Centers stand for. They are the last mile to successful business transactions. We still have room for big, medium and small businesses to join. Together, we bring a new sense of daring and enterprise to the business people of the world through whose efforts the numbers of the poor keep shrinking as global unemployment declines and hope replaces despair among billions of people around the globe.
WTC Mumbai joined in 1970, the same year the World Trade Centers Association was founded. They are one of the most successful in the current group of 324 World Trade Centers in 96 countries. WTC Bangalore is the newest member and we expect great things out of them. Kochi is not far behind and we have additional 8 prospective World Trade Centers in different stages of activity and completion of license requirements in India.
Being in India, we must take our hats off to all those entrepreneurs who created massive wealth out of nothing in launching various IT companies. Oh how can we forget the Tatas, the Mittals, the Ambanis and many more who have redefined Foreign Direct Investment by becoming major global investors in anything from automobiles to steel from the third to many first worlds? Yes a rising tide lifts all boats.
The energy of the BRIC countries is that they are replacing development through “let me give you” with “let me show you.” They are replacing dependence and aid with trade. It has and is working. Let us all who are in one way or another involved with international trade rededicate ourselves. Our calling is noble. There is none higher. The newly hopeful bottom billions are cheering. The upper billion are adjusting to the unfolding new reality best captured by Klaus Schwab, the Founder of the World Economic Forum, who said on January 26, 2011 at Davos, “We must face the new order with constructive optimism. We cannot move back to the old order.”
A new day is dawning when nations that were once written off are now redefining economic equality. Through this, universal human rights will become a reality and for a dividend, we may get that elusive peace and mutual respect after all. Who knows, the prophecy that said “they shall know war no more” may come from increased and fair trade as an unintended bonus.
“Italian Philosophy in Developing Architecture – The Italian Way of Building Your New World Trade Center” è il progetto proposto dal WTC Pescara e presentato dall’architetto Cristiano Rossi a Mumbai in occasione del Global Economic Summit che si è tenuto dal 27 al 29 gennaio scorsi.
Cristiano Rossi, a capo dello studio di progettazione Cristiano Rossi Architetti, ci ha raccontato le sue impressioni in merito all’esperienza indiana.
Le impressioni
“Siamo giunti a Mumbai con l’obiettivo di esporre questa progettazione di architettura sostenibile. Questo è stato possibile grazie ad una partnership con il WTC Pescara. L’intenzione è di portare un messaggio innovatore. Le prime sensazioni sono state sicuramente positive.
Aldilà dell’impatto visivo e della differenza culturale che si percepisce, abbiamo notato che c’è molto da fare ed il Paese è pronto per una grande crescita. L’India ha uno sviluppo frenetico. Le strutture e infrastrutture crescono, ma allo stesso tempo si nota una mancanza di verde e energie rinnovabili.

Mumbai, con i suoi 22 milioni di abitanti, ha bisogno di essere oggetto di una pianificazione urbana. E qui sarebbe utile portare uno specifico know-how di tecnologie, che ancora latita. Devo ammettere con molta franchezza che i riscontri però sono stati più che positivi”.
Il progetto “Italian philosophy in developing architecture”
“L’India ha immense potenzialità. É la più grande democrazia al mondo. A questo si lega però un corrispondente problema legato alla burocrazia e alle amministrazioni.
Quello che da noi è stato proposto, è un progetto off – grid, vale a dire una serie di azioni che possono essere temporaneamente slegate dalle infrastrutture della città, così da poter permettere autonomamente, ad esempio, lo smaltimento concreto dei liquami. Lo sguardo inoltre è proiettato alle tecniche e pratiche del fotovoltaico ed eolico. Tutta una serie di tecnologie che in Italia esistono e che possono essere esportate.
Questo concettualmente è stato molto apprezzato, perché ci si è anche soffermati sulle possibilità di far ricorso a deroghe normative in modo che si possa partire in tempi veloci, evitando lungaggini. Potrebbe essere un vantaggio enorme. Dovremmo interagire con le amministrazioni locali così da poter entrare in sinergia con le stesse e generare un impatto positivo sul territorio”.
WTC e prospettive
“Il lavoro dei WTC ha effetti di sicuro positivi. Sostengo oramai da tempo che il network è una risorsa necessaria, fondamentale per affrontare le sfide all’estero e in generale in tutto il mondo. Con il WTC Pescara si è creata questa partnership, che ci ha permesso di credere seriamente in questo progetto. Ci siamo trovati subito in sintonia e proprio da questa è nata la possibilità di andare in India. Il WTC Pescara ha notevolissime potenzialità e queste gli permetteranno di avere un ruolo strategico soprattutto per quanto riguarda la possibilità di intavolare politiche di B2B con aziende italiane che possono inviare il loro know-how in India. Quindi una collaborazione che si prospetta avvincente e fruttuosa”.
